Within 60 days the ruling party in UP showed its strength twice by organising district-level public meetings on Tuesday across the state on the occasion of 77th birth anniversary of BSP founder Kanshiram.
In Lucknow, CM Mayawati paid floral tributes to the founder of the BAMCEF, DS-4 and BSP Kanshiram. On this occasion, she visited the Kanshiram Smarak Sthal and garlanded to her mentor late Kanshiram's statue.
With the Assembly elections to be held in 2012, the birth anniversary celebrations were held in all 72 districts with great enthusiasm. The celebration was in stark contrast with last year's celebration the maha rally attended by the BSP workers from all over the country.
The rally and her anti-Congress tirade were covered by a jumbo garland of currency notes presented to her on the stage in her honour.
Paying tribute to Kanshiram, CM said that the life of late BSP founder was a perfect example of sacrifice, commitment and struggle.
He gave new direction and infused energy in the 'movement of social change' to create awareness among the Bahujan Samaj and crores of dalits, she added.
Dalit mentor Kanshiram struggled throughout his life for the uplift of dalits, backwards, poor and weaker sections suffering from injustice, exploitation and unequal social system for centuries. BSP Chief called upon the party workers to take resolve to realise the dreams of Kanshiram to give him a real tribute.
After the four-and-a-half years death of BSP mentor the late Kanshi Ram has been elevated to the status of a modern-day deity.
By holding rallies and meetings all over the country Kanshiram strengthened the position of dalits and changed the political scenario and he successfully changed the old and oppressed equations of the state.
CM owed it to the efforts of Kanshiram which helped BSP came to power in Uttar Pradesh for the fourth time on its own. She makes a look to the murals depicting the important events of the life of Kanshiram; she was accorded warm welcome by the people gathered at the function.
Later, a senior cabinet minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui distributed 540 tractors including 77 in Lucknow districts to the farmers in Lucknow today.
These tractors are being provided under the subsidy scheme given by the centre to boost pulses cultivation in the state.
The state government had claimed to make several efforts to immortalise the memory of late Kanshiram. Under it, several welfare schemes were being conducted and various institutions and awards have been named after him.
Urban poor residential scheme conducted all over the state named after Kanshiram like Manyawar Kanshiramji Shahri Garib Avas Yojna. Green (Eco) Garden and Urdu-Arabic-Persian University had been set up in the Lucknow and dedicated to the people of the state.
A week early, ambitious scheme known as Manyawar Shri Kanshiramji Shahri Dalit Bahulya Basti Samgra Vikas Yojna had been thrown at a cost of about `2,000 crore so that the condition of the Dalit dominated areas of the cities would be improved and basic facilities could be provided to them, CM underlined. In recent time, district was named as Kanshiram Nagar in Agra division.
Besides, decision had been taken to set up government Medical College in Saharanpur and Agriculture and Technical University in Banda district in his memory.
Lucknow city was painted in blue to mark the occasion and all major memorials and parks constructed by the
Mayawati government were illuminated with blue fairy lights.
